Germany Pledges Commitment to Driving Green Agriculture in Nigeria

The German government has vowed to support Nigeria in its quest to achieve green agriculture.

The Consul-General, Germany in Nigeria, Mr. Weert Borner, made this known in an interview in Lagos.

Borner explained that it is time for Nigeria to embrace green agriculture as a way to finding lasting solutions to the numerous challenges hindering the food sector’s growth.

According to him, the devastating effects of climate change on global agriculture have increased the need to shift agricultural sector’s focus to green agriculture in Nigeria.

He stated that the German government is willing to support Nigeria in investing in scientific operations and agricultural research to enlarge the knowledge base for Nigeria and the rest of the world to find good solution for the future of agriculture.

Borner said: “I will like us to look at the aspect of green agriculture. It is so important for all of us because we all know that climate change is not just a future threat, it is there already, and it is threatening a lot of agriculture bases around the world. So, we have to make agriculture a lot greener in the world.”

The German envoy noted that, “the German government will definitely go ahead to support Nigeria’s quest to attain food security in the adversity of climate change on global agriculture.”

Speaking further, the German diplomat stated that Germany, being a key leading country in the European Union, would support the Federal Government of Nigeria to make sure agriculture is at the front burner of the nation’s economy.
